Rain and brake light - two
separate functions in the same package. As a rain light, it can be
wired to stay illuminated or flash at a high pulse rate attracting
additional attention in low visibility conditions. As a brake light,
it can also operate as a rain light simultaneously. The light uses
very low power - it can be powered brightly with a single 9V battery -- we
tested it with a 3V battery and it was extremely bright! Low drain
is of huge benefit for purpose built racing cars with a "total
loss" electrical system.
The "super bright"
red LEDs are the brightest available - the same used in the highly visible
advertising signs in Las Vegas and New York City. You could easily
see this light in any kind of weather condition! They also have a 30
degree viewing angle, meaning they can maintain consistent brightness
level up to an angle of 30 degrees from center in any
direction.
There is a circuit for each
of the 18 LEDs, a characteristic unique in the rain light market.
Other rain lights may have more LEDs, but they are clustered together in
groups, so if one circuit fails over time, then up to 5 clustered LEDs
will fail. The flash in the rain light can be adjusted via an
internal resistor.
The housing is tough but
flexible and resistant to vibration. The LEDS are held in place by
an industrial grade epoxy. It can be completely submerged while
illuminated. It also has reverse polarity protection if the power is
connected backwards and voltage spike protection for jump batteries, jump
starting, or loose connections.
